Boriana Dimitrova was born and raised in Sofi a, Bulgaria. She started taking piano lessons at the early age of four, followed by the oboe and the saxophone some years later. Already as a child and teenager she joined the Sofia Youth Brass Band and the Youth Big Band, with which she performed in Bulgaria and abroad. In 1998 she graduated as the first female saxophonist in Bulgaria.
During the 90’s Boriana had some very active years. She was a member of two of the most popular Bulgarian rock and pop-bands, performed in jazz clubs and at festivals, played concerts with the State Symphonic Orchestra and the Symphonic Orchestra of the State Music Academy and, worked as a studio musician.
To continue her musical education Boriana came to Germany. In Hamburg she graduated from the Hamburg University of Music & Performing Arts as a music tutor in jazz saxophone. In Mannheim she graduated from the Mannheim University of Music & Performing Arts in jazz composition and arrangement.
In 2007 she founded the Boriana Dimitrova Quartet, which since then has performed in several clubs and at festivals in Germany and abroad.
